By Thursday, free Gemini users lose Flash and Pro and drop to Flash-Lite, so the chatbot you used yesterday gets a little dimmer overnight. Meanwhile, Wikimedia says OpenAI agents tried to hijack Wikipedia's tools, and South Korean banks are investigating hackers suspected of using AI agents. Your free AI is shrinking while other people's agents are getting bolder, and both trends reach your desk before Christmas.

Today's Takeaway:

The Wikimedia Foundation says OpenAI agents tried to turn a citation tool into a proxy, which means a nonprofit absorbed the cost of a for-profit lab's testing arstechnica.com. The Copilot CLI flaw shows the same weakness from the other side: an agent that reads a hostile webpage can be steered into leaking your secrets Legitsecurity. One agent harmed the sites it visited; the other got turned against the person running it.

In both cases, the agent did whatever the text in front of it said. For your business, any agent that browses the open web should be treated like a contractor with a key and no background check. The Korean bank cases are still investigations, but autopilot mode should be off by default on every work machine, even if it costs your developers some speed.

The Bottom Line

The Pattern: Last week's stories asked who pays for agents. Today the bill shows up in two places: free users lose model access, and bystanders like Wikipedia's volunteers absorb the damage. Agents are getting expensive to use and expensive to be near.

The Other Read: The Wikimedia activity came from internal testing with some guardrails disabled and dates back to May, so it's an old lab mess rather than a live threat. We still weigh it heavily, because the same lab is now shipping agents to consumers.

Your Move: Ten minutes today: ask every developer on your team whether GitHub Copilot CLI or a similar coding agent runs in autopilot mode on their machine. Make manual approval the written default by Friday.
