Your Guide to What's Happening in AI and Why It Matters to You

If you've ever typed something raw and personal into ChatGPT, a contractor may have read it - and today we finally know how that process works. Meanwhile, Salesforce built its own reasoning model so it never has to send your customer data to a frontier lab, and a children's hospital in Philadelphia is modeling kids' hearts in seconds. Three stories, one question: who's actually touching your data and your decisions?

Today in AI:

Today's Takeaway:

Salesforce's Koa and CHOP's cardiac modeling are both built on open-weight Nvidia models, and both were chosen for the same unglamorous reason: the data never leaves. Read through a data-custody lens, that's the story today - not capability. Koa can't leak your customer records because it never saw them. CHOP's models run on scans the hospital already holds. Set that next to Project Lily, where human contractors read real transcripts to grade tone, and the enterprise preference makes obvious sense (Tom's Hardware). My contestable take: Koa's real selling point isn't reasoning quality, it's that a CIO can answer "who reads this?" with "nobody." Frontier labs have no comparable answer, and they're the ones losing enterprise deals over it.

"The winning AI pitch in 2026 isn't smarter. It's "nobody reads your data, because we never had it."

🏆 5-Minute AI Challenge

Sketch Your Dream Home Office

The challenge: Draw a rough sketch of a home office or workspace setup you'd love to have, snap a photo of it, and let AI turn it into a polished design concept you can actually shop for.

Step by step:

  1. Grab a pen and paper and sketch a simple layout of a workspace you'd love: desk placement, shelves, lighting, plants, whatever comes to mind (stick figures totally fine)
  2. Snap a clear photo of your sketch in good lighting
  3. Upload the photo to your favorite AI tool and ask it to turn the sketch into a polished, realistic design image, mentioning any style you like (cozy, minimalist, bright, etc.)
  4. Ask the AI to list the actual furniture/decor items shown so you can search for them online
  5. Compare the AI's version to your original sketch and pick your favorite elements to actually shop for this week

Why this matters: With smart glasses, spyware scares, and privacy debates dominating this week's AI news, it's a good reminder that the most useful AI skills are the low-stakes, high-reward ones you control yourself - like turning a napkin sketch into a real upgrade for your own space.

The Bottom Line

The Pattern: Open weights have quietly become a compliance feature. Salesforce, Nvidia, and a Philadelphia children's hospital all picked the same architecture this Tuesday, and none of them cited benchmark scores as the reason - this is a procurement decision now, made by legal departments, not research teams.

The Other Read: Koa may just be Dreamforce theater. Salesforce still routes hard problems through frontier models via its AI gateway, so "we built our own reasoner" could mean "we built a cheaper one for easy tickets." We lean toward significance anyway, because the token-cost argument holds even if the capability claim doesn't.

Your Move: Five minutes today: open your ChatGPT settings, find Data Controls, and turn off "Improve the model for everyone." Then ask your team which of your vendors can name who reviews their logs.
